Indianapolis Museum of Art, 4000 Michigan Road, Indianapolis, Indiana
This past weekend I had a chance to visit a really inspiring car exhibit at the Indianapolis museum of art. Dream Cars: Innovation design, visionary ideas reminds me why I love concept cars and how I wish there wasn't so many constraints on modern vehicles. The exhibit starts with looking at concepts from the early 1930's ,and as you walk through you see the progression that companies took to push innovation all the way to the 21st century. The exhibit does a nice job of guiding you through each era letting you focus on each individual design. The timeline also helps the viewer see the influence that everyday culture had on the design of the vehicles. Infamous companies Buggatti + Ferrari from the European side to the local heroes Cadillac + Buick are represented well across the exhibit.
Although there were many beautiful concept cars present, there was very little information on the process (models, sketches, notes, etc...). I wish I could get a better look into the minds of these world renowned designers. On a last note, areas of exhibit had poor lighting, making it hard to get a good picture on a mediocre camera.
Enjoy the images below and stay tuned for Part 2 that looks at the product design exhibit that was also displayed at IMA.
